Nobby the mechanic stopped by the boat last week with a re-built injection pump. With some difficulty we got the old Perkins to run but the new injection pump had not solved the problem of low rpm and lots of smoke. Next step is to remove the cylinder head and reseat the valves. Still waiting for parts for the Raymarine autopilot.

You might check the blow by on the rings to just see if there need to be replaced the rings and maybe re-sleeved the engine

You really don’t have to pull the heads to check the blow by just put a negative and positive pressure gauge on the injector port and it’ll show you if there’s any blow by and then you have to double check and see if it’s the valves or the rings but I would do a pressure check before you do anything major to the engine save you some time and energy
